INTERACT-CHERKASY
The Club "Interact-Cherkasy” was founded on November 23, 2003 on the initiative of the Rotary Club "Cherkasy-Centre”. At first students from several schools gathered in the building of the Specialized School #17 www.fml17.ck.ua
, and this school has become the meeting place of the Club. The Club is officially registered in the Cherkasy city council by the message 23.01.04.
The priorities of the Club are:
1.Aid for the orphans in the regional orphanage for children under age.
2.Aid for the children hospitalized in the trauma department of the first city hospital.
3.Aid for the pupils of the pre-school institution # 34.
4.Participation in telecommunication projects. During the current year the members of the Club took part in the projects "Aliante-2004” and "Service for Peace”
The Club activities attracted the local community’s attention during the year. Thus, the Club activities involved such people as the heads of the Rotary Club "Cherkasy-Centre”, the education and cultural assistant attaché from the U.S. embassy in Ukraine, Martha Pareima, co-coordinator of the project "Iowa-Cherkasy”, Mary Dodson, member of the Rotary Club "Des Moines” (U.S.) Mac Mullen, and the director of Des Moines canal, an old good friend of our school. There were several publications about the activities of the Club in the city and regional press. The student of 10-A class, Igor Pashchenko, on the request of the Club visited a Rotary Club in Texarkana (State of Texas) where he gave a presentation about Ukraine and the Interact Club in Cherkasy
On May 25-30, 2004 the head of the Club Sergiy Saenko with 3 students visited Lviv and Lodz (Poland) where they participated in the activities of the Rotary Club "Leopolis-Lviv” and the creation of the third Interact Club in the district. Earlier the members of the Club had their first picnic in Holodnyj Yar. That was the first picnic since the foundation of the Club.
The Club started summer vacation on June 3, and there won’t be any meetings until September 2004. At that time the Club will think about its expanding and adding new members.
The first president of the Club is Oleksandr Piskunov.
